Job Summary
The Facility Support Assistant is a security-conscious support role that ensures the safe and orderly movement of approved tradespeople and contractors within the Detention Center to ensure trades and contractors adhere to safety and security protocol. Under the supervision of the Unit Manager-Facilities, the Facility Support Assistant will support housekeeping operations by monitoring cleanliness in common areas, replenishing supplies, and assisting with other routine upkeep tasks as needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Accompanies approved vendors, tradespeople, and contractors throughout secure areas of the facility in accordance with all safety and security protocols.
Assists with coordinating entry and movement of outside workers in partnership with the Facility Manager.
Observes and reports work progress or issues to the Unit Manager-Facilities.
Conducts regular walkthroughs of the facility to help identify maintenance, housekeeping needs, or supply restocking.
Supports the custodial team with general upkeep duties, such as wiping down surfaces, collecting trash, and maintaining orderly storage areas.
Reports facility maintenance issues or cleanliness concerns promptly to the Unit Manager-Facilities.
Helps maintain standards of cleanliness, sanitation, and order throughout the facility.
Performs other duties as assigned by the Unit Manager-Facilities.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.
Equipment Operated
Standard cleaning equipment used in an office and detention center, including and not limited to, power tools, cleaning solvents and chemicals.
Confidential Data
All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.
Working Conditions
Potential exposure to hazardous situations that may occur in the court environment, including a tense and hostile atmosphere, contagious diseases, loss of bodily fluids, vulgar and obscene language, and emotionally charged situations. Physical demands of the job include walking, standing, or bending while cleaning. Sometimes must move or lift heavy supplies and equipment. As a result, the work may be strenuous on the back, arms, and legs. Some tasks, such as cleaning restrooms and trash areas, can be dirty. Some experience with power tools is required and cleaning solvents. Occasionally handles emergency or crisis situations.
Usual Physical Demands
While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently walks and stands.
Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and demonstrate the following:
1. Ability to push and pull objects, pick up objects, and bend repeatedly in order to move desks, beds, and other furniture.
2. Ability to step up on elevated surfaces.
3. Ability to reach, bend, and stoop.
4. Ability to walk extended periods throughout the facility.
5. Ability to stand for extended periods.
6. Ability to lift and carry containers of items weighing up to 45 lbs.
7. Must demonstrate competency in implementing defensive tactics and satisfactorily complete all of the requirements in training of defensive tactics, including passing the recertification.
New employees are required to pass Defensive Tactics Training by the end of the introductory period.
Must perform tasks, duties, and job responsibilities without restrictions and/or limitations.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Knowledge of institutional cleaning. Familiarity with cleaning equipment, materials, and chemical products routinely used in institutional cleaning. Must be reliable, professional, and able to follow directions and protocols. Ability to work safely in a secure environment and communicate clearly with staff and vendors.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or GED required.
AND
Minimum of one (1) year of work experience in a custodial, facility support, or a detention/correctional setting.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
None.
