Job Summary

The Human Resources Generalist is responsible for providing comprehensive Human Resource support for the Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas, Juvenile Division in the areas of employee relations, discipline, complaints, unemployment, leave of absence, Workers’ Compensation, and performance matters. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Receives and logs employee complaints, grievances, and discipline information.  Responds to discipline history requests.

Prepares responses to unemployment claims.

Provides clerical support for leave of absence processing by distributing forms to employees, receiving forms and reviewing them for completion, drafting approval notices, logging information in Kronos, and distributing approval notices.

Processes timecards for employees on extended leaves of absence by entering leave pay codes into Kronos.  Communicates paid/unpaid status changes to the County Benefits Office.

Provides clerical support for Workers’ Compensation claim processing by reviewing and logging Accident Investigation Reports, corresponding with the Cuyahoga County Workers’ Comp office, and completing wage statements.

Distributes introductory period performance evaluations to managers; receives, reviews, and files completed performance evaluations.

Plans and executes monthly activities to promote positive employee relations.

Assists in the coordination of ADA accommodations and Independent Medical/Fitness for Duty Exams.

Assists employees with inquiries on various HR topics such as Kronos, policies and procedures and benefit issues. 

Prepares, maintains and analyzes necessary reports to carry out the functions of the department, also prepares periodic reports for management, as necessary or requested.

Serves as a point of contact with the Court’s employee assistance program when employees are referred for services.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.

Equipment Operated

Standard office equipment and office technology such as copy machines, personal computers and telephones.

Confidential Data

All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.

Working Conditions

This position is subject to many interruptions and may be required to handle multiple calls and inquiries at once.  The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet.

Usual Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear.  The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms and perform repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.  Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, and ability to adjust focus.

Ability to interpret and use Human Resources terminology; ability to handle stressful situations and work in a fast paced environment; ability to comprehend a variety of reference books including, but not limited to, an Employee Handbook and the Ohio Revised Code; demonstrable knowledge of FMLA, ADA, and Workers’ Compensation; excellent customer service skills including verbal and written communication skills; ability to work within deadlines; communicate effectively with all levels of staff;; must be detail oriented with the ability to prioritize workload and identify and develop effective programs to maximize performance; ability to work as a team member and independently; ability to comprehend a variety of informational documents including, but not limited to, employment applications, personnel files, medical certifications, and other human resources documents; must be well organized; demonstrable personal computer skills, proficiency in Microsoft programs including, but not limited to, Word and Excel; must have comprehensive knowledge of Human Resource functions and responsibilities; ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality required.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Human Resources or related field, or equivalent work experience.

AND

Two (2) years of Human Resources experience in a generalist role, recruitment, or related field.
