Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares, cleans and stocks food and dining area for serving daily meals to Detention Center residents and staff.

Assists Cooks with the preparation and serving of daily meals.

Obtains census count for meal planning and reports on meals served for State school food service requirements.

Stocks, prepares, and serves beverages, salads, sandwiches, and desserts.

Inspects, cleans and maintains dining area, serving areas and prep-areas.

Washes dishes, trays, pots, pans and replenishes all eating supplies and utensils.

Oversees the assessment of food consumption and quality.

Performs other duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.

Equipment Operated

Kitchen appliances and tools.

Confidential Data

All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.

Working Conditions

Potential exposure to hazardous situations that may occur due to working in the controlled environment of the Detention Center kitchen: extreme temperatures, strong smells, fast-paced and potentially stressful, exposure to chemicals for sanitation purposes. While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, walks and stands. May stand for long periods of time. Exposure to high heat and cold temperatures and large power tools and sharp instruments.

Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and demonstrate the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

  1. knowledge of food service, food handling and cleaning; ability to work well with people and follow instructions thoroughly. The ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds, is an essential function of this position which includes, but is not limited to, lifting commercial sized pots and pans filled with liquids and food.

Education and/or Experience

Minimum high school diploma or equivalent

AND

Three (3) months’ work experience in food service.

Licensure or Certification Requirements

Food Safety Certification
