Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Responsible for the operations of the Court’s Diagnostic Clinic, including the supervision of licensed professional staff, support staff and interns and the overall quality of the work product.

 

Pursues ongoing training to support the Diagnostic Clinic in order to maintain best-practices related to forensic evaluations, treatment recommendations, and evidence-based interventions for juvenile justice and trauma-informed care.

 

Oversees and conducts court ordered forensic evaluations for the Juvenile Court to address disposition alternatives, competency to stand trial and amenability to services in the juvenile system. Reviews relevant records and conducts multiple clinical interviews with subjects including parents/guardians and collateral sources. Administers and interprets psychological tests and writes thorough, well-supported reports which comport with forensic best practices and answer the courts’ questions.

Oversees and conducts court ordered forensic evaluations related to custody matters before the Juvenile Court. Addresses questions such as visitation, change of permanency goal, termination of parental rights, return home, motion for case closure, and motion to vacate or transfer guardianship. During the course of evaluations, duties include reviewing relevant records, conducting multiple clinical interviews with subjects, interviewing parents/guardians and relevant collateral sources, administering and interpreting psychological tests, and writing thorough, well-supported reports which comport with forensic best practices and answer the court’s questions.

Communicates evaluation findings to a diverse audience, such as Court officials, DCFS staff, Probation staff, and caregivers

Responsible for the recruitment, selection and termination of unit employees.

Establishes assigned employee expectations and provides performance feedback on an on-going and annual basis. Assists assigned employees in establishing goals. Evaluates assigned employees’ goal achievement through conferences and informal meetings. Makes decisions regarding assigned employees’ employment probationary period.

Provides orientation and on-going training, mentoring and coaching to existing assigned employees.

Assigns duties and responsibilities to employees, develops and establishes procedures for operating and maintaining required data-keeping and administrative systems.

Consults with court staff, attends staffings in probation and detention. Conducts and/or coordinates in-service training for court staff. Consults with other external agencies, including schools, mental health agencies, social services and other private and public systems.

Assists in the greater integration of screening, assessment and intervention in diversion, probation and detention.

Assists in the development, implementation and delivery of behavioral health interventions in diversion, probation and detention.

Oversees the work of contract evaluators. Ensures timely assignment of cases. Reviews completed evaluations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Responsible for supervising and aligning the Diagnostic Clinic and all staff with best practices pertaining to forensic evaluations, juvenile justice, and trauma informed care for abuse and neglect.

Equipment Operated

Standard office equipment and office technology such as copy machines, personal computers and telephones.

Confidential Data

Includes all court-related information regarding hearings, etc. the employee may come in contact with while working in the facility.

Working Conditions

Works in a general office setting with moderate noise levels. Employee also may work in a classroom environment training staff.

Usual Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, to speak clearly, and to hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Knowledge of the field of applied psychology including techniques and instruments used in developmental and psychological assessment and treatment interventions. Knowledge of the behavioral and emotional disorders associated with adolescent populations, and intervention techniques for antisocial and destructive behavior patterns. Preferred knowledge of Juvenile Justice and effective correctional practices, such as relational skills, and behavior management strategies; thorough understanding of court operations with experience in working with Juvenile Justice population in both the community and detention settings; comprehensive knowledge of evidence-based interventions for juvenile justice population; strong understanding of ecological factors that impact adolescent development and behavior and ability to articulate comprehensive systemic recommendations; ability to work independently with demonstrable skills in organization, establishing and maintaining work relationships with Court officials and the public, and problem-solving; familiar with social service agencies serving children, parents, families, community, etc.; excellent written and oral communication skills; ability to effectively present to adult learners; ability to effectively provide constructive feedback to aid in implementing best practices; knowledge of American Psychological Association (APA) Ethical Principles of Psychologists; Ability to make use of supervision, be culturally competent; proven record of discretion and diplomacy.

Flexibility in work hours to accommodate program needs including, but not limited to, out-of-state travel (including overnight travel), program monitoring and observation, and youth and staff interviews on an as-needed basis.

Flexibility in work hours to accommodate the Detention Center needs.

Education and/or Experience

Must have an Ohio Psychology license and have completed an APA-accredited pre-doctoral internship. Specialization in child and adolescent psychology and 5 years post-license experience preferred.
