Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Using an automobile, delivers summons, subpoenas and other related court documents and notices to involved parties, witnesses, etc., to provide legal notice for individuals to appear in court.

Locates individuals to be served using telephone directories or other available information on contacts to verify addresses for proper service.

Records and maintains information on served and unserved summons by recording time, place and type of delivery served to document whether service was completed.

Responds to and answers questions from recipients of legal summons, subpoenas, etc., to provide information regarding legal notice.

Using an automobile, delivers other related material internally and to various administrative facilities.

Maintains trip logs accounting for mileage and time usage.

Performs other duties as needed.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.

Equipment Operated

Standard office equipment and office technology such as copy machines, personal computers and telephones; also the operation of an automobile.

Confidential Data

All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.

Working Conditions

The working environment for Process Server involves both vehicle drive time and general office time.

Usual Physical Demands

Ability to operate a motor vehicle and sit for long periods of time.

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

 

Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s license, current automobile insurance and a reliable automobile. Requires the ability to operate an automobile; ability to read maps and street directories. Familiarity with municipalities; demonstrated ability to plan and organize work and complete work in a timely manner. Must be flexible and available evenings and weekends.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or equivalent

AND

One (1) year of work experience, preferably in a driver/courier position.

Licensure or Certification Requirements

Must maintain a valid Ohio Driver’s license and current automobile insurance.
