Job Summary
Plans, directs and coordinates staff activities regarding the Transportation Officer role which includes but is not limited to acting as a courier for the building, satellite offices, and County partners delivering various items to the intended location. The Transportation Officer will also operate and post all mail for the Court.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Manages all aspects of supervision and work activities for assigned Transportation staff including, but not limited to, performance, scheduling, attendance, and training.
Directs transportation of Court mail to main Post Office and expedites mail delivery, including all mail and Court cases to and from satellite offices.
Coordinates transportation of mail, packages and special deliveries between Court offices and other agencies. Transports Judges and other staff to meetings throughout the County.
Analyzes office operations in order to maximize effectiveness of unit functions.
Maintains and schedules service requests with the County Fleet Department.
Transports and delivers mail to all Cuyahoga County Court of Common Pleas Juvenile Division facilities and offices, County buildings and the post office.
Delivers administrative paperwork/documentation/notices as needed (e.g. to homes of employees).
Maintains trip logs accounting for mileage, time usage, and vehicle destination.
Operates mail machine and processes all outgoing mail.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Has supervisory accountability for other employees, volunteers, or interns. Plans, directs and coordinates activities for a unit. Duties may include scheduling and assigning of work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and decisions impacting the pay, status and tenure of others. Conducts performance evaluations, provides input into and participates in discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes, and is accountable for editing timecards for assigned staff.
Equipment Operated
Standard office equipment and office technology such as copy machines, personal computers and telephones; automobile. Additional equipment includes usage of the postal stamping machine.
Confidential Data
All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.
Working Conditions
While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, walks and stands. Subject to large amounts of vehicle time.
Usual Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, to speak clearly, and to hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds. This position is also subject to large amounts of vehicle time and must be able to pass the eye test to operate a motor vehicle.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Working knowledge of vehicle operation and map reading; excellent interpersonal and time management skills. Proficient in operating computers and a variety of office equipment, including printers, copiers, scanners, and related technology.
Education and/or Experience
High school diploma or equivalent.
AND
Five (5) years of work experience in transportation, such as driving, scheduling trips or deliveries; one (1) year of which must be driving. One (1) year of experience in a supervisory capacity is preferred.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license and continuously maintain automobile insurance in compliance with state law, with a driving record acceptable to the Court's current policies.
Any position which requires operating a motor vehicle as an essential duty of responsibility of the position will be subject to a driving record check through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Applicants are required to provide their driver license number upon request. Applicants who possess a driver’s license from a state other an Ohio, or those applicants who have possessed an out-of-state driver’s license at any time during the five years prior to review, must provide a certified copy of his or her out-of-state driving history for at least the five years prior to the review of the applicant’s driving qualifications.
