Job Summary

The Case Manager, Drug Court is responsible for providing case management services for female Drug Court participants. The Case Manager, Drug Court refers youth to appropriate services with the goal to reduce risk factors leading to youth’s substance abuse. They monitor the youth progress in the home, school, and community. Drug Court is a specialized docket that meets every week for court hearings and team meetings. Drug Court Case Managers present information regarding the youth on their caseloads weekly at court hearings and Drug Court team meetings.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Provides ongoing case management services for pre-adjudicated female youth involved with Drug Court and their families in an effort to minimize involvement in the juvenile court system. Re-evaluates services and treatment plans, as needed.

Interviews youth and families for program intake and/or program eligibility. Gathers social history and other relevant information for court presentations and further service planning.

Monitors the youth’s functioning at home, school, and in the community. Oversees implementation of appropriate incentives to assist youth in maintaining treatment interventions developed by the team and imposes graduated sanctions when necessary.

Develops case plans, provides screenings, and makes appropriate clinical and prosocial referrals.

Attends weekly Drug Court treatment team meetings and court hearings. Provides concise, thorough, accurate, and well- written reports and oral presentations at those weekly court hearings and treatment team meetings.

Collects random, frequent, and observed urine screens following National Drug Court testing standards.

Confers with their supervisor to evaluate case priorities and to participate in case consultations.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.

Standard office equipment and office technology such as copy machines, personal computers and telephones.

Confidential Data

All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility and confidential information that employee comes into contact with while working with clients.

Working Conditions

This position is subject to varying and unpredictable situations; may handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously; and may occasionally handle absentee replacement on short notice.

Position may be required to travel and visit with clients and family members and have varying working conditions outside of the courthouse. Contact potentially involves occasional exposure to physical injury, illness or hazards as a continuous part of the position. May occasionally have exposure to unsafe working conditions, people, or elements, and may have to take precautions when performing tasks.

Potential exposure to hazardous situations that may occur in the court environment. Must be able to tolerate exposure to evidence and testimony that may be disturbing; clients who may potentially be verbally or physically uncooperative; allergens, such as perfumes and dust. Works in a setting that may be subject to quick deliverables, and changing work deadlines.

Usual Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, to speak clearly, and to hear.  The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
 

Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.  The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. 

 

Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development, particularly as it relates to substance abuse; knowledge of family dynamics and human behavior; skilled in brokering community resources, identifying and utilizing appropriate resources; effective oral and written communication skills; skilled in case management, interviewing, maintaining good working relationships with a variety of groups; ability to manage stress, time, confidential information while maintaining a professional demeanor; flexible in work hours; reliable/consistent transportation; valid Ohio drivers license and automobile insurance.

Education and/or Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science or related field.

AND

Three (3) years of work experience in case management or working with adolescents with co-occurring disorders
