Job Summary
The Violence Intervention Program (VIP) Coordinator will serve youth who are actively on probation and referred to the VIP Program. This multidisciplinary team will coordinate violence interruption interventions, educational/vocational services, mentoring, and trauma focused services, designed to prevent youth gun-related crimes from escalating into serious offenses. This role plays a vital part in supporting youth impacted by community violence by providing direct services, building trust, and connecting them with resources that promote healing, accountability, and long-term well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Coordinates, directs, and/or participates in supervision and planning as part of a multidisciplinary team to identify needs and facilitate referrals to community-based service providers for youth and families engaged with the Violence Intervention Program Team.
Consults with probation officers, courtroom staff, youth, and families for program intake and eligibility determinations. Conducts interviews with youth and families to develop comprehensive social histories and gather relevant information for court presentations and service planning. Engages with clinicians, law enforcement officials, and other stakeholders in the home, field, or detention settings (both in-state and out-of-state), as necessary.
Prepares written reports detailing youth progress. Files probation violations, motions, and review requests as needed. Completes DIRs, AIs, OYAS assessments, case plans, and makes court presentations as required. Reviews and interprets psychological, psychiatric, medical, and chemical dependency assessments; CCDCFS reports; victim impact statements ; and other pertinent documentation. Provides appropriate recommendations.
Presents cases orally in court hearings before judges and magistrates. Interprets court orders and makes necessary referrals to collateral agencies. Prepares case summaries, follow-up documentation, and other written correspondence as required. Completes probation reports and maintains data for program evaluation purposes.
Responsible for building and maintaining relationships with community partners committed to reducing gun violence through healing-centered approaches. Ensures participants, especially aging-out youth, have access to permanent supportive housing, independent living supports, educational/vocational opportunities, employment, and healthcare services.
Monitors and ensures compliance with all court orders by arranging urinalysis, clinical evaluations, placements, and other necessary services. Assists with coordinating transportation for youth and families to various locations, including Probation Support Services, Home Detention, the Detention Center, Diagnostic Clinic, attorney offices, and other relevant appointments.
Delivers individualized interventions to court-involved youth who are at risk of or impacted by violence.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.
Equipment Operated
Standard office equipment and office technology such as copy machines, personal computers and telephones.
Confidential Data
All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.
Working Conditions
Works in a general office setting with moderate noise levels. Subject to frequent interruptions, quick deliverables, and changing work deadlines. Potential exposure to hazardous situations that occur in the Court environment. Must be able to tolerate exposure to evidence and testimony that may be disturbing, clients who may potentially be verbally or physically uncooperative, allergens, such as perfumes and dust.
Usual Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to sit, to speak clearly, and to hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Demonstrated knowledge of adolescent growth and development, human behavior, and family dynamics. Working knowledge of brokering community resources, understanding of the juvenile justice system. Skills in interviewing, case assessment and case management, and individual counseling. Effective oral and written communication skills. Must be computer literate. Must have the ability to work as a member of multidisciplinary teams that cross systems. Ability to make use of referrals; maintain confidentiality; establish and maintain positive working relationships with clients and professionals; make use of supervision. Must be culturally competent. The ability to effectively manage stress, to behave professionally and demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills. Flexibility in work hours to accommodate program needs including, but not limited to, case consultation on an emergency or as needed basis 7 days/week, 24 hours/day, in person or by telephone.
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor’s degree in behavioral and/or social sciences such as a degree from an accredited school of social work, psychology, sociology, corrections or related fields.
AND
Three (3) years of work experience with adolescents or relevant field experience in case management or other collateral systems interfacing with the juvenile justice system.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Must possess a valid driver's license and continuously maintain automobile insurance in compliance with state law, with a driving record acceptable to the Court's current policies. Must have ready access to a safe functioning automobile with valid registration and insurance.
Any position which requires operating a motor vehicle as an essential duty of responsibility of the position will be subject to a driving record check through the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles. Applicants are required to provide their driver license number upon request. Applicants who possess a driver’s license from a state other an Ohio, or those applicants who have possessed an out-of-state driver’s license at any time during the five years prior to review, must provide a certified copy of his or her out-of-state driving history for at least the five years prior to the review of the applicant’s driving qualifications.
