Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Prepares well‑balanced, nutritious, edible and attractive meals for Detention Center residents and staff. Cleans and stocks dining area for serving daily meals.
Prepares kitchen area, equipment, utensils and appliances.
Measures and mixes ingredients according to recipes.
Prepares and serves large quantities of food from all food groups.
Stocks, prepares, and serves beverages, salads, sandwiches and desserts.
Cleans work area after each meal and empties trash to insure sanitary and health requirements are met.
Washes dishes, trays, pots and pans, and replenishes all eating supplies and utensils.
Performs other duties as needed.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Has no direct supervisory responsibility for staff members.
Equipment Operated
Kitchen appliances and tools.
Confidential Data
All court-related information regarding hearings, etc. that the employee may come in contact with by working in the facility.
Working Conditions
Potential exposure to hazardous situations that may occur due to working in the controlled environment of the Detention Center kitchen: extreme temperatures, strong smells, fast-paced and potentially stressful, exposure to chemicals for sanitation purposes. While performing duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, walks and stands. May stand for long periods of time. Exposure to high heat and cold temperatures and large power tools and sharp instruments.

Must pass a pre-employment physical exam and demonstrate the ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 lbs.
Knowledge, Qualifications, Skills, and Abilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Demonstrated ability to read recipes, follow instructions and mix and measure ingredients properly.
Ability to utilize food service equipment carefully to prepare large volumes of food.
Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
Ability to lift and carry a minimum of 50 pounds, is an essential function of this position which includes, but is not limited to, lifting commercial sized pots and pans filled with liquids and food.
Education and/or Experience
Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent.
AND
Prefers continuous full-time work experience directly related to the essential duties and responsibilities listed above while preparing food in a cafeteria or restaurant.
Licensure or Certification Requirements
Food Safety Certification preferred.
